Join me in my studio Thursday September 24, 6-9pm to learn what Kitchen Lithography is about.
The kitchen lithography process employs the lithography printmaking principle that oil and water do not mix. Unlike traditional stone lithography, kitchen lithography uses items you’d likely have in your kitchen. Replace stone with aluminum foil, replace nitric acid with cola ( phosphoric acid) and the process remains the same. An oily substance is drawn onto the the aluminum plate. Cola is poured over to etch the drawing an make the background foil attract water ( hydrophilic). The plate is washed off with water and remains damp throughout the inking process. Oil based inked onto the plate and stays where the oily drawing was made.
We’ll learn about how to prep a aluminum foil plate, explore what oil- based media can be used on the plate, how etching the plate works and how to ink up the plate.
Every month on a Thursday evening I will host a class with varied art processes in rotation. Most will center on printmaking
Note : I’m immunocompromised and will ask folks to mask if there are more than 2 people that join this studio. Please bring a mask, I will have extras if you forget. If this makes you uncomfortable then I ask that you choose a different instructor. Thank you!
This class is a little more pricey than typical classes because minimum and maximum capacity is 2 people because of the amount of space required for different parts of this process.
I will send you a follow up email with further instructions the week of the workshop
